A couple of weeks ago I had the privilege of capturing some gorgeous family moments for my good friend Claire.
I’ve known her for over two years now, first meeting her when I tentatively stepped onto my yoga mat for the very first time and she taught me how to open myself to everything inside me and accept it in all it’s perfectly imperfect chaos. As time has gone on we’ve gradually made the transition from the teacher/student relationship to friendship, supporting and encouraging each other in many different ways.
She was the first to volunteer when, in a moment of bravery, I offered five free family photoshoots to build up my portfolio and I’m so glad she did as we had so much fun together. I’ve learnt a lot since then. When she told me she was pregnant and asked me to capture some maternity photos of her I jumped at the chance.
We’d been trying to arrange a time to get together for weeks but life kept on getting in the way for both of us. As her due date got closer and closer we managed to find a Sunday that worked for us both and so with Claire being 38 weeks pregnant we headed up to Cannock Chase along with her husband David, their two children Bella and Lucas, and her father-in-law Neil. I’d not met David before and I think it shows how lovely a family they are when I say that on meeting him we shook hands and by the end of the session I got a hug and a kiss on the cheek to say goodbye.
We walked and talked and they played and snuggled and it was wonderful. I love maternity sessions that include the whole family – they’re so much fun as the extra dynamic of little ones keeps things interesting.
Baby could arrive any day now and I’m just waiting for the message that he or she is here so I can scoot round for some newborn cuddles and a few more photos.
