The city skyline on the shores of Lake Michigan took my breath away every time I saw it and it was so peaceful down by the water.

Interrupting the Chicago spam to celebrate that this one's passport application has finally been approved!
.
It may have taken 13½ weeks; I may have spent pretty much the whole of the last two days on the phone begging and pleading with various people from various departments; and the husband may have to drive all the way up to Liverpool tomorrow morning to collect it in person, but it's done and I can't tell you just how much of a relief it is because timing-wise it's been a very VERY close call.

Has anyone else had any passport application dramas or have we just been really unlucky?

I've followed @nataliegildersleeve on here for years so when I saw she was teaching a class on family storytelling at @clickawayconference I signed up right away.

@mandypelton and her gorgeous family were a joy to capture. There were snuggles, tickle fights and star freckles galore and I'm pretty sure I had as much fun as they did. Thank you so much for showing up wholeheartedly and for being all-in with the fun and games. I hope you love these images as much as I do.

I love black and white images for so many reasons

I love black and white images for so many reasons and getting to learn more about how to use light to create compelling storytelling photographs from the queen of b&w herself, @therealdanaleigh , was a definite highlight of @clickawayconference
.
Our model @kailamargolis was an absolute star - thank you so much for your time (and endless hair flips!).

I couldn't resist including a couple of colour images in this set too though. Which do you prefer in general - colour or black and white? And which is your favourite image from this little collection? I can't choose - I love them all!

I've been home for a week now and I'm finally star

I've been home for a week now and I'm finally starting to go through my images from Chicago.

It's such a cool city - I loved it there and explored as much of it as I could in between my classes at @clickawayconference
.
This is Cloud Gate (affectionately known as 'The Bean') and it's definitely worth getting up early and heading there first thing in the morning for photographs without the crowds.

@clickawayconference in Chicago finished a week ag

@clickawayconference in Chicago finished a week ago and I still haven't quite come back down to earth yet.
.
Firstly, jet leg is kicking my ass so much more than it usually does - I am SO tired 😴.
.
And secondly, it was such an incredible few days of learning, inspiration, creativity, laughter, exploring, fun, friendship, community and encouragement that I really didn't want it to end.
.
I caught up with friends; got to hug people I've been talking to online for years; got totally lost wandering around the city (which is, of course, the best way to discover the coolest things); and challenged myself to try new things with my photography.
.
Next year's location hasn't been announced yet but I'll be signing up ASAP when it is because the whole experience filled my heart and soul with all the things I didn't know I'd been missing.
.

Halfway through the year and I've decided to do so

Halfway through the year and I've decided to do something I've never, ever done before and take a whole month off from client-facing therapy work.
.
I'll still be working on some big things behind the scenes that I'm excited to eventually share, but right now I need a long overdue rest and the chance to get back to my 'why'.
.
I'm also heading off to @clickawayconference in Chicago next week and I can't wait to reconnect with friends, learn a heap of new stuff (@meg_nlo @leanna_azzolini_photography @ashleymarstonphotography @nataliegildersleeve and @therealdanaleigh I'm looking at you!) and be inspired to get creative with my photography again.
.
In between classes I'll be exploring the city as much as possible so I'll be sharing some travel stuff too.
.
If you've been to Chicago before leave me some suggestions of things to see, places to visit and hidden secrets that I need to discover in the comments below - all suggestions gratefully received.
