Project Happy {Year 6}: Days 351-365

This is the very final installment of Project Happy and it’s one of those moments where I’m not really sure what to say.

Documenting the little moments of happiness sprinkled throughout my days has got me through some very dark times.  It has also helped to make already bright days even lovelier.  I wouldn’t be who I am now without this project and that fascinates me – that I could have been a similar-but-different version of me if I hadn’t committed to taking a photo every day.

So why stop now?  Honestly, I don’t have the answer to that.  It just feels like the right time to stop, so I am.  I do feel a little sad about it and also a sense of release and freedom too.  Isn’t it funny how we can place such importance and meaning on things when actually we have the power to decide whether to continue with them or let them go?

Anyway, ramblings aside, here are my moments of joy from the end of February and the start of March…

Day 351: The most beautiful, peaceful sunrise to start the day

Day 352: Jigsaw puzzles, cats sleeping in boxes and movie night

Day 353: These photobooth photos are rapidly becoming my most favourite thing to do on a rainy afternoon!

Day 354: Someone made herself a little den – it must have been comfy because she fell asleep before bedtime

Day 355: Meeting author Michelle Harrison at our local Waterstones bookshop

Day 356: Riding lesson #2!

Day 357: I made some lemon cake. I haven’t made this recipe for years and had forgotten just how good it is!

Day 358: The girls had to cook a French dish for their homework and chose to make French crepes instead of pancakes on Shrove Tuesday. They turned out pretty well!

Day 359: I love finding little love notes and doodles from Mimi (well, any of the girls actually) dotted around the house

Day 360: Golden sunrise

Day 361: Blue sky for the first time in ages!

Day 362: Dragged everyone out for a quick walk in the fresh air at one of my favourite places. We really are so lucky to have this on our doorstep.

Day 363: Second walk in two days – it felt like some kind of miracle! Determined to make the most of the sunshine and dry weather whilst it’s here.

Day 364: A pretty pastel sunrise was a lovely, gentle way to begin the week

Day 365: Bedtime snuggles with my littlest girl

That’s a wrap.  Six whole years of capturing a photo every single day of the things that make me smile, the things that lift my spirits and the things that bring me joy. I have learnt so much through this project, which I honestly never intended to last any longer than the initial 100 day challenge I started out with back in 2014 in the lead up to my wedding day.  I noticed such a difference in my mindset and outlook on life during those one hundred days that I decided to keep on going, and now here we are six years later.

I’m not sure how I know that I’ve come to the end of Project Happy.  I just know that it’s time to call it a day.  I’ll continue to document these little moments for myself but I don’t feel I need to keep myself accountable by sharing them all here any more.

I wish I had something more profound to say – it feels like the end of an era to me, a transition into the next phase (whatever that may be).  Thank you for following along.  Thank you for your comments and encouragement.  And thank you to those of you who joined in with your own versions of documenting your happy moments.  I hope you continue.

There is joy and beauty everywhere, even in the most mundane and messy days – we just have to choose to look for it.
