She's back, and juuuuust about recovered from her trip to Paris 🥱

She had an absolutely BRILLIANT time. I've loved hearing all her stories and seeing all the photos and videos she took. She's made so many memories with her friends that will last a lifetime and I'm so proud of her for the courage and confidence she's cultivating.

At 1am this morning, bleary eyed and with what fel

At 1am this morning, bleary eyed and with what felt like a thousand butterflies in my tummy, I waved my youngest teenager off on a coach heading for Paris on a 4-day school trip with her French class 🇫🇷
.
She's the first of the girls to go abroad without me and the thought of her being in an entirely different country is...unsettling. It's also the longest she's ever been away from home.
.
I know she's going to have an absolutely brilliant time though: they're going up the Eiffel Tower; going on a riverboat cruise down the Seine; having a tour of the city; AND spending a whole day at Disneyland Paris!
.
She's going to be utterly exhausted when she gets back, but it'll be 100% worth it for the memories she'll have made 🫶

I met my younger self for coffee today. Except eve

I met my younger self for coffee today. Except even though we both love the smell of coffee, we can't stand the taste, so we each get hot chocolate instead. Her because it's part of what helps her get better, me because old habits die hard.

She asks me if it's worth it, to keep looking forwards in the midst of all the difficult stuff she's working through. I tell her that it will transform her in ways she can't even begin to imagine.

She is, as always, insatiably curious and full of questions: "Do we help people?". "Oh yes", I reply, "we do". "Do we go to Australia?". "We do, and New Zealand too". She lights up inside when I tell her that.

I share with her that many things happen during those fifteen months of travelling that will alter her trajectory - she will meet some fascinating & wonderful people, some of whom go on to become soul friends. I explain that she learns so many important lessons along the way, and that she does things she never in a million years thought she'd ever do.

"Do we have children?". I tell her that we are lucky enough to have three incredible girls, plus a bonus daughter who we love as if she's our own. I let her know that her journey through motherhood shapes her, & at the same time it's just a part of who she is, not the whole of her.

She wonders whether I still feel 'different'. I'm honest and say that I do, and that she'll find something out about herself when she's 40 and then it will all make sense. She is indignant that she has to wait that long.

It's time to go but she hates goodbyes. I hug her, gently - she's fragile despite her inner strength. As we part ways I tell her to trust the timing, to trust the process, to trust herself, and to not regret one single thing that she chooses (even the hard, heartbreaking stuff), because it's all part of her becoming who she is now. Me.

I got really quite emotional writing this. It took me ages to decide which version of 'younger me' I wanted to meet with in the first place - there are so many I could have chosen. In the end I went for 18yo me. I think I might meet a few other me's for a hot chocolate some day too 🫶

I explored Barcelona five months ago and realised today that I haven't shared many images from my trip yet.
.
I loved the creative street art that was scattered across this beautiful city. As it's Valentine's Day tomorrow, I figured I'd share my favourite 'love' related photographs from my time there.
.
'The Kiss' was an incredible piece, tucked away in a tiny courtyard amidst a labyrinth of back alleys. I almost missed it, then I turned a corner and there it was, without a single other soul around so I was able photograph it to my heart's content. It's made up of thousands of individual tiles, each one a photograph in itself, depicting people's different ideas of what love means to them.

I love capturing photos of the girls in their natural habitats (ie: their bedrooms 😂). I know that the wall colours, the posters, the layout, the bedcovers - everything - will change over time and I want to document it during each of the different phases and stages. She's already rearranged (and added more to) the posters since I took this!

Daffodils for my Dad. Ten years gone. . A whole de

Daffodils for my Dad. Ten years gone.
.
A whole decade of not hearing his laugh, not seeing his eyes crinkle in a smile, not listening to one of his outrageously elaborated stories.
.
Sometimes it seems like an eternity.
Sometimes it seems like yesterday.
It never seems real.
.
Grief changes you, irrevocably. Time doesn't heal the space that's left, it just softens the edges a little - makes them a tiny bit less sharp. The missing piece doesn't get filled in, you just... adjust yourself around it somehow. After all, grief is just love with no place to go.

I am ridiculously proud of this one, who performed

I am ridiculously proud of this one, who performed in the school musical production of Sister Act this week after months of intense rehearsals.
.
She played two very different roles - a cop and a nun - and had lines to speak, an American accent to master, songs to sing, dances to learn and multiple fast-paced costume changes to navigate.
.
She worked SO hard, as did everyone else involved in the show, and it was an outstanding success on all three nights. I laughed, I cried, I clapped so hard that my hands hurt, and I loved every second of the entire performance each time I watched it.
.
Needless to say, she's now utterly exhausted and enjoyed a well-deserved weekend of resting. There were tears galore on closing night...she's made new friends and core memories that will hopefully last a lifetime.
.
